Exceptions to Confidentiality As a professional and registered counsellor in NSW, Australia, Jann Morgan is required to abide by Australian legal and ethical guidelines regarding privacy & confidentiality. Your welfare is paramount. If you share that you are going to do harm to yourself or others, or commit a serious crime, I have a duty of care to take an action that may require sharing this information with a third party.
If I become aware that a child is at risk, it is mandatory to report this to FACS through the Child Protection Helpline, so that the child can be assisted. Any notes I may take to assist your well-being are confidential and kept securely as per Privacy legislation, unless they are subpoenaed by a court.
In the field of counselling it is a requirement of Professional Association Membership for practitioners to consult with a Supervisor. If your case is discussed with a Supervisor, no personally identifying information will be used.
